If you are like me, you will associate watermelons with summer and hot weather. Nothing is as refreshing as a slice of cold watermelon on a hot day, especially after returning from a long walk or coming from the gym, smile.
But let’s talk about selecting one from the Farmers market or the grocery stores. Here are some pointers that I learn way back, since I did not grow up eating them because I was picky, silly me! Smile 1. Select a watermelon that sounds hollow when you tapped it and also, that is big. 2. When you are checking them, if the watermelon has a yellow spot, it means that it was left to ripe in the ground on that side, therefore, that’s the reason why it developed the yellow spot. There is absolutely nothing wrong about that. On the contrary, if you see that yellow spot, the larger it is, the riper and sweeter that melon is. Therefore, grab it and run to pay for it, go home, process it and enjoy it later, smile. 3. Finally, when I get home with my watermelon, the first thing I do is rinse it with vegetable soap, pat dry and begin to slice it however I wanted. I make thick half rounds slices to eat by hand on a hot day. Next, I cut a good portion of what’s left, discard the peel, cut in cubes and place in two containers in the fridge to use for salads, cottage cheese with other fruits and honey, and watermelon smoothies. There you have it friends, enjoy this super refreshing fruit!
