This set took me about 20 minutes to make. This hobby makes me feel so relaxed and alert. Why? Simply because it is entertaining and challenging at the same time.
The intense part is when you have a ton of beads in front of you and then you need to select not only the bead style but also, the colors to match and make the piece(s) interesting and unique.
In the end, if you look at it, you can easily use this set to go to a party, or to the movies, the mall or even to go to work. It will all depend on what outfit you will use to match these fabulous colors. OR, you can give it away to family or friends. You will be the judge, smile.
It just occurred to me that I haven’t work on my crafty stuff for quite a while. So, I decided to get my beads containers to assess my assortment of beads and see if I could come up with an inspiration to make something such as earrings, necklace or a bracelet, so I didn’t have to drive to the craft store.
The beads were so many and so mixed, so I decided to go casual and came up with a bohemian style. Then I had to decide what to make. Immediately, I decided to make a bracelet-earrings set.
Finally, the most important part happened, which beads I was going to select. Well, I did and this is the end result.
These pieces are so easy to make for fun and If you want, you can also give them away.
GRANDKIDS CHEF’S FINALE, MARA and SASCHA making MY HOMEMADE SHRIMP CRISPY “SORULLITOS DE MAIZ” (OR CORNMEAL FRITTERS)
Hey, to close MY 5 GRANDDAUGHTERS CHEF'S WEEK, I have the sisters, Mara (Mareikita for Bela) and Sascha (Saschi for Bela) cooking a traditional fritter, SORULLITOS.
Mara is already a university student who was an amazing volleyball player for her high school varsity team. She is also a great skier and swimmer. She is smart, sweet, loving and caring. She will be so successful in any career she’ll choose to go.
Sascha, Mara’s sister, was also a very successful and an amazing varsity basketball player in high school, as well as a great skier, swimmer and soccer player. She also, like her sister, worked a par-time job, help at home as needed and drove her brother to golf practices. She became a university student last month and I can’t wait to see her choosing a career to go in the near future. Oh, and she makes the best bagels from scratch, yummm!
But now, it’s time to make memories again with my grandkids. It is critical to pass on my roots to the new generation; such as what I ate growing up, my recipe’s, etc. For this Sorullos recipe, I kept the traditional Boricua ingredients, however, to step it up, I added my new ingredients, shrimp and when they are done, dip them in my Tzatziki-Mayo-Angie’s Dry Seasoning and EVOO sauce. So this is my Year 2021 Sorullitos Boricua Recipe and made by 2 of my 9 babies, Mareikita and Saschi. Good Job girls.
Category: Side or snack
Approx. Prep and Cook Time: 40 TO 45 Minutes
Approximate Cost: $11.75 or $2.35 per serving
Difficulty Level: Easy
Allergens, Other: Gluten Free
Servings: Approx. 5 people (about 40 fritters) or 8 per serving
Ingredients for the Sorullitos Dough
1 tsp. Kosher salt (.10)
1 tbsp. of organic sugar (.10)
2 tbsp. unsalted butter (.30)
4 c. water
2 c. cornmeal (fine) ($1.00)
Ingredients for the Sorullitos-Shrimp filling
1 medium-size shrimp bag, tails off and chopped ($5.00)
1 tbsp. Angie’s dry seasoning (.25)
2 c. (or more) Peanut oil or olive oil to fry the “Sorullitos”/cornmeal fritters ($2.00)
OPTIONAL: In case you are allergic or don’t want them, just omit the shrimp and make them plain.
In a non-reactive saucepan add the salt, sugar, butter and 4 c. of water. Bring it to a boil, then turn the heat off.
Slowly add the cornmeal whisking constantly to get the dough mixed well.
At this point add the shrimp if you are using it and mix well into the dough.
Allow it to cool down a bit so that you can manage to scoop a spoon into your hand and roll it into an approx. 3” long piece.
(If the dough sticks to your hands, simply wet them with a bit of water and keep rolling.)
To fry them in a deep fryer or a cast iron skillet, pour about enough oil to cover the corn fritters, perhaps 1 to 2-inch-deep and heat until hot and bubbly before dropping them in the oil.
Very careful, drop the rolls into the oil, do not overcrowd the frying pan and cook until golden brown on all sides.
Then, remove from the oil and transfer to a rack to drain any excess oil.
Traditionally back home in Puerto Rico, we serve them with mayo-ketchup, a dipping sauce made with ketchup, mayo and garlic or adobo. However, we decided to serve them with my Tzatziki sauce.
Yes, she can do it all. She can bake, cook, take care of her siblings, drive her pickup truck to school and work, and worked two part-time jobs until recently. (One was at Starbucks, yummy).
She has been an amazing athlete all her life until few months ago, simply because she graduated from high school in June and just started college. She swims, snow ski, water ski, she was a volleyball state champion, well, too many talents to mention.
Our whole family is so proud of her as well as my other 8 grandchildren.
YES, I must tell you that my Siennita is a gifted athlete, like all her cousins. Moreover, she has been cooking from a very young age as well. Likewise, just like her cousins, she has grown up to become a beautiful, super sweet and adorable teenager.
Although she’s an amazing swimmer, all her life she played soccer and within the game, several different positions. The last game that I saw her playing, she was the goalie and boy did she play outstanding. She was super-fast, sharp and clearly showed everyone her amazing skills. It gave me so much joy to see her playing a game that I love so much and I used to play many years ago.
I know that Siennita will be successful in anything she put her mind to do now and in the future. Her parents taught her the discipline needed to overcome obstacles and be the best that she can be in life. Keep up the good work my love!
Camelita can make the best and most beautiful Merengue’s ever, because she has been making them since she was a child, smile. Also she makes cakes, Pavlovas sorullitos, amazing creative breakfasts, lunch and dinner meals like a pro.
Outside her kitchen, Carmelita has been playing sports for a long time. She is an extraordinary volleyball, snow-water skier and tennis player. Furthermore, on her artistic end and as a hobby, she is producing art work, (paintings) like any professional. I am so impressed. Keep working hard darling!
One of my three daughters, Dona, is an amazing mother, wife, daughter and furthermore, a successful real estate broker and agent in North Carolina. Her days are as busy as anyone can imagine. However, she used her talents to tackle each barrier, problem, predicament or unexpected difficulty.
So what a mom can do to give her something to express that I appreciate all she does? Some jewelry, smile. Yes, I never met a woman who doesn’t like to use jewelry in her life. She was my inspiration to come up with this set of simple earrings. She can wear them any day to go shopping or even to stay at home looking good!
Thanks for being such a sweetie and keep up the good work darling. Mom.
Yep, as I always do every year, I go window shopping at stores like HomeGoods and Hobby Lobby, so that you don’t have to step out of your home to see what’s trending now that you may want to buy. I usually do it in spring time but I did not have a minute to spare this year. Therefore, better later than never right?
It is so nice to create a new small area in the kitchen, or to buy something that will make your home pop somewhere. You don’t have to purchase a lot, just something that will catch your attention and furthermore, that you decide you must have.
Take a look at these store’s montages of dramatic designs and colors and I am sure that like me, you will find and purchase something to enjoy looking at or using in the future. Enjoy!
Lukas is an amazing Ice Hockey and tennis player, just like his brother Tomas. He is fast and skilled on that ice ring and tennis court. Time just pass by so fast. He was that child the other day and today he is way taller than me, smile. However, don’t get me wrong, he is now 15 years old and on his spare time he also loves to cook too.
He has been working on his chef side skills since he was very, very young. In these photos you can see him making Ice Cream, OK? Ice cream and the interesting part is that it tasted amazingly delicious. He is so cute and adorable. However now, he is a handsome young man, smile.
Nowadays as a teen he has some other cooking ideas, hopes and dreams. The sky is the limit. Keep it up my love!
Dave is an amazing and mature 17-year old guy. He is an extraordinary soccer player and also, he is the high school varsity football team kicker. He loves cars and plays a musical instrument for fun. He is such a sweet soul and I love him so much. He reminds me of his father, (my son), when he was growing up; very disciplined, respectful, committed, loving and caring.
In the kitchen, Dave is serious about what he wants to eat. He can cook and bake easily. By the way, he taught me years ago how to make eggs in a hole, smile. Before that, I never done eggs that way, very creative.
Our whole family is so proud of you Davidsito, as well as my other 8 grandchildren. Keep working hard my love.
