I was strolling down my backyard garden and then noticed that although all my azaleas are flowering beautifully, two of them look shocking. Therefore, a thought came to me right away. Why not enjoying my time by making a flower arrangement and in the process, make my dining room even more beautiful with fresh flowers, oh, and FREE! Smile!
So easy to do:

Yes, you guessed it, I was kind of bored and suddenly decided to do something creative. Went to my craft room and after lots of thinking, I chose these beads to create the earrings.
Nothing fancy, therefore, I decided just to make the earrings and no bracelet and or necklace. Boom, done. CRAFTY MONDAY- ONE MORE EARRINGS SET JUST FOR FUN. MAYBE IT WAS TIME TO RUN TO THE CRAFT STORE!4/4/2022 Well, I am not too happy with this set, simply because I am not fond of the yellow color that much.
However, at the end of the process, the earrings didn’t look that bad and turned out OK, so I like them a little, smile. Plus, I had a good and creative quiet time to enjoy, boom! Unfortunately, we are creatures of throwing everything in the trash without thinking twice if there is another use for an item. Of course I know that we can’t recycle everything but we should all make an effort to keep the land fields “healthy” for the next generations.
Today, I am sharing a hack with you that I have been doing for quite a while. Reusing egg cartons is very rewarding and creative. Though I use them in the past to start seeds for my garden, I also use them to store earrings in my drawers so that when I need to find one pair I do not go crazy not finding the other one. My twin daughter Suzy took my hack to the next level and when I visited her, I was so impressed with her organizational skills on this matter. These are her drawers, so neat! Hopefully you will be excited and start using the egg cartons in your own favorite way. Yes, I felt crafty today and did what I always do; grabbed my beads boxes, beads board, and some of the mechanicals needed. Then the thinking begins. What will I be making? Is it earrings? Bracelets? Necklace or a combination set?
Without too much thinking, I decided to start selecting colors that may look different, however, combined, then I came up with these two beads tones; lime and purple. Then I decided to make a mixed combination of 3 bracelets and of course, earrings to match. This is the final set, hope you like it. I was in a mood for making jewelry and without missing a beat, I went to my craft room, got my beads containers and started the exciting process of looking at what appeal to my eyes at the moment.
Would I want to make a bracelet, or just earrings or maybe a set that would include a necklace? Will I pick gold or silver tones for the mechanicals? Well, that is what makes making jewelry as a hobby so exciting. It is your “me” time with the beads, smile. So many options, ideas, colors, combinations. Finally, these are the pieces that I came up with and definitely, I am hoping that you like them too. This is a simple, yet bling, bling set. Nowadays, one can use it even to go to the mall, smile.
Regardless, it is one of my lovely hobbies, along with cooking, gardening, decorating, traveling, exercising, sewing, cleaning my home and a ton of other things, smile, that keeps me entertained during this crazy COVID times, where you do not get to mingle or socialize as much as you want to. Life is good, we are alive, we have loving families and health and that matters a lot. This set took me about 20 minutes to make. This hobby makes me feel so relaxed and alert. Why? Simply because it is entertaining and challenging at the same time.
The intense part is when you have a ton of beads in front of you and then you need to select not only the bead style but also, the colors to match and make the piece(s) interesting and unique. In the end, if you look at it, you can easily use this set to go to a party, or to the movies, the mall or even to go to work. It will all depend on what outfit you will use to match these fabulous colors. OR, you can give it away to family or friends. You will be the judge, smile. It just occurred to me that I haven’t work on my crafty stuff for quite a while. So, I decided to get my beads containers to assess my assortment of beads and see if I could come up with an inspiration to make something such as earrings, necklace or a bracelet, so I didn’t have to drive to the craft store.
The beads were so many and so mixed, so I decided to go casual and came up with a bohemian style. Then I had to decide what to make. Immediately, I decided to make a bracelet-earrings set. Finally, the most important part happened, which beads I was going to select. Well, I did and this is the end result. These pieces are so easy to make for fun and If you want, you can also give them away. Hey, to close MY 5 GRANDDAUGHTERS CHEF'S WEEK, I have the sisters, Mara (Mareikita for Bela) and Sascha (Saschi for Bela) cooking a traditional fritter, SORULLITOS. Mara is already a university student who was an amazing volleyball player for her high school varsity team. She is also a great skier and swimmer. She is smart, sweet, loving and caring. She will be so successful in any career she’ll choose to go. Sascha, Mara’s sister, was also a very successful and an amazing varsity basketball player in high school, as well as a great skier, swimmer and soccer player. She also, like her sister, worked a par-time job, help at home as needed and drove her brother to golf practices. She became a university student last month and I can’t wait to see her choosing a career to go in the near future. Oh, and she makes the best bagels from scratch, yummm! But now, it’s time to make memories again with my grandkids. It is critical to pass on my roots to the new generation; such as what I ate growing up, my recipe’s, etc. For this Sorullos recipe, I kept the traditional Boricua ingredients, however, to step it up, I added my new ingredients, shrimp and when they are done, dip them in my Tzatziki-Mayo-Angie’s Dry Seasoning and EVOO sauce. So this is my Year 2021 Sorullitos Boricua Recipe and made by 2 of my 9 babies, Mareikita and Saschi. Good Job girls. Category: Side or snack Approx. Prep and Cook Time: 40 TO 45 Minutes Approximate Cost: $11.75 or $2.35 per serving Difficulty Level: Easy Allergens, Other: Gluten Free Servings: Approx. 5 people (about 40 fritters) or 8 per serving Ingredients for the Sorullitos Dough 1 tsp. Kosher salt (.10) 1 tbsp. of organic sugar (.10) 2 tbsp. unsalted butter (.30) 4 c. water 2 c. cornmeal (fine) ($1.00) Ingredients for the Sorullitos-Shrimp filling 1 medium-size shrimp bag, tails off and chopped ($5.00) 1 tbsp. Angie’s dry seasoning (.25) 2 c. (or more) Peanut oil or olive oil to fry the “Sorullitos”/cornmeal fritters ($2.00) OPTIONAL: In case you are allergic or don’t want them, just omit the shrimp and make them plain. Directions In a non-reactive saucepan add the salt, sugar, butter and 4 c. of water. Bring it to a boil, then turn the heat off. Slowly add the cornmeal whisking constantly to get the dough mixed well. At this point add the shrimp if you are using it and mix well into the dough. Allow it to cool down a bit so that you can manage to scoop a spoon into your hand and roll it into an approx. 3” long piece. (If the dough sticks to your hands, simply wet them with a bit of water and keep rolling.) To fry them in a deep fryer or a cast iron skillet, pour about enough oil to cover the corn fritters, perhaps 1 to 2-inch-deep and heat until hot and bubbly before dropping them in the oil. Very careful, drop the rolls into the oil, do not overcrowd the frying pan and cook until golden brown on all sides. Then, remove from the oil and transfer to a rack to drain any excess oil. Traditionally back home in Puerto Rico, we serve them with mayo-ketchup, a dipping sauce made with ketchup, mayo and garlic or adobo. However, we decided to serve them with my Tzatziki sauce. |
