If you have a blank canvas in your garden, don’t worry, there are unlimited ways to create one of a kind space to enjoy with your family. I went to Home Depot this week and discovered an assortment of new garden accents for this summer. Some are elegant, like this black and white flower pot. Can you imagine it with lots of red or orange flower in it? Fabulous right? (By the way, I saw the same pot at BJ’s for under $45.00)
Other accent pieces are either whimsical or plain unexpected, however, tremendously colorful. Look at the bicycle, it is about 15” wide. Who would have thought of it? It is at the top of a garden rod and it could brighten any bare spot. After all, you want to make people go “wow that looks amazing” right? Smile.
So what are you waiting for? Go to your local garden center, browse through what they have in stock and challenge your Picasso style imagination by creating something unexpected and colorful in your garden. Have fun, live is short.

MEMORIES FROM 2016: It is Time to Re-Open Your Screened Porch; NOW!

Most of us are “antsy” to open our decks for summer.  For one thing, some areas are still seeing snow and cold temperatures that are blocking our creative juices to decorate the outdoor living spaces. Fortunately, those who own homes with screened porch/decks, (like my son and daughter), have the advantage. These are some steps to follow to enjoy your outdoors while decorating for the season.

  1. Pressure wash or just plain hose clean the pollens that are covering all surfaces, floors, furniture, screens… Not only this stuff is nasty but it causes allergies to a lot of people.
  2. REFRESH: Go shopping for a colorful outdoor rug, they complete the decoration and make the space look so cozy.
  3. Then, go looking for accessories throughout your home and garage and be creative. For instance, there are three unrelated elements in that center table; the green upside down flower pot, a decorative lantern on top and a bottle that I found in the trash can that looked so cute. I washed it well and then found the red flowers in the garage. Not bad.
  4. Remember, you don’t have to break the bank to make your outdoor areas wonderful and enjoyable. This space looks AMAZING!
  5. Now, go get the family, have a nice BBQ and lots of fun in your new space.

My Dear Gardening Friends:

There’s hope, gardens everywhere are beginning to wake up. The bright yellow forsythias are already gone and so are the Daffodils. However, now is time for other colors to ENJOY!

Tulips are making a strong comeback and now you can see that last year perennials are beginning to grow from the ground. I was lucky enough to capture a black butterfly in my back yard while doing my walk-through.  However, a soon to be show stopper is rapidly approaching and it will provide us with great colors to enjoy; they are the AZALEAS. Yes, this is just how they look now but soon, they will bloom with a vengeance. Therefore, please be patient and stay tuned! Smile.
