ANGIE’S GARDENING 101 – PART 1 -” THE PLANNING STAGE”

Gardening is the most relaxing hobby that I can think of. You only need few basics to start it. However, before running to the garden center, answer these questions:

  1. Are you a beginner gardener?
  2. Are you interested in growing flowers or veggies and herbs, or develop a landscape?
  3. Where do you live? North? South? By the ocean? All soils are not the same.
  4. Have you asses how much space you will have to start a garden?
  5. How much sun do you get in that space daily?
  6. How much time can you allocate to care for your garden?

Regardless of your answers, don’t get discouraged, there is always a way to get a small garden going. Furthermore, not only do you get to plan what you want to do, you also get uninterrupted “ME” time when you work in your garden and if you plant flowers, you get to enjoy and cut some for indoors display.

However, if you get into planting veggies, fruits and herbs, you get the benefit of harvesting and eating organic products for way less than what you pay at the grocery store, and healthier.

So get paper and pencil, do a walk-through your property and get a gardening plan in paper before the end of this week.  You are going to love it!

MEMORIES from last year: OUR NATIONAL BEAUTIES – THE CHERRY BLOSSOM TREES

If you had the opportunity to visit our nation’s capital (or live in the Washington Metro Area), especially during spring time, you have been fortunate to enjoy a picturesque site like no other, the cherry blossom trees.

Every year there is concern about the blossoms; will they open on time or will the wind blow them away. One thing is for sure, we all love them.

If you come to visit, you can see the cherry blossom trees in three National Park Service locations: around the Tidal Basin, in Hain’s Point, and on the Washington Monument grounds.

In 1912, the people of Japan sent 3,020 cherry trees to the United States as a gift of friendship. First Lady Taft at the time and the wife of the Japanese Ambassador, planted the first two cherry trees on the Tidal Basin area.

The gift was sort of a reminder that life, like the cherry blossoms is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short.

During a nice walk through my neighborhood, I was blessed to see that the nasty winter cold, snow and misery was about to leave us alone for a while. The evidence was everywhere; trees, plants emerging, lawns getting green again and spring flowers in full bloom. I am so happy to see so much natural beauty.

So, since I am such a good girl and I constantly take photos to capture nice stuff to share with you, I decided to “allow” you to enjoy the fruits of nature that I saw in a couple of my neighborhoods today. Have fun, smile.
