Today, when I was working on my daily walks, I encountered a woman who was bringing a green planter in perfect condition and placed it on top of her trash bin. As I approached her driveway, I asked her if she did not want it. She indicated that she doesn’t do gardening, doesn’t care about it and that it was her daughters, who moved out of the country. Lucky me, I asked if I can have it, and she was super happy about it. Boom!
Therefore, I took it home, cleaned it well, spray painted it brown, filled it with soil, and placed some colorful plants in it. There you have it. One more item that will not go to the landfill! YIPPEE!

I wonder what the mailman thinks about this decorative idea. it doesn’t look bad at all, is just simply that there might be some wasps and/or bees and who knows, a possible snake within the foliage.
Creative decorative ideas all over for my walks enjoyment. So, you or anyone in your family purchase some nice tennis shoes and you end up with a couple of boxes to place in the trash bin. Right? Wrong. You figure out a way to make them pretty and give them a new use, STORAGE.
I did some research about this tree. Technically known as Coccoloba uvifera, this tree is native of south Florida, Bermuda, Bahamas, North and East of south America Brazil, Mexico, central America, and the pacific coast of south America to the south of Peru.
It takes about 3 years to grow however, the whole development can take between 7 and 8 years. And of course, I grew up in Puerto Rico, an island in the Caribbean, where it also grows. I always knew this tree, loved it and ate lots of its grapes. This is what you do to harvest some of the grapes and munch on when you go to the beach. You take one of the big tree leaves, twist it to make some sort of a cone, pin it with a toothpick and fill it with grapes to eat as you go. Great memories. The more we care about Nature, the more Nature will take care of us. Not only that, but by recycling and repurposing items, we send less trash to the landfilled that take years to decompose, hence, contributing to leave a better world for our children and grandchildren.
What you will need for this project: 1 empty Greek Yogurt container and lid, rinsed and dried. 1 small paint brush Scissors to cut the container to the high of your choice. 1 small container of your favorite color paint, (I used navy blue) Anything you want to glue in the front to decorate. (I used some sea shells I had at home) Glue gun or any other heavy glue to attach the shells or your decoration piece of choice. Old newspapers to cover the area where you will paint. Process: 1. empty the container of all yogurt, rinsed well and dry. Punch some holes in the bottom. 2. Paint until the outside surface is all covered. 3. Paint half of the inside area, since you will cover the container bottom with potting soil. 4. Allow it to dry for at least overnight. 5. Time to have fun, glue the decorating piece, allow it to fry, fill it with potting soil and place somewhere you like to enjoy. Yes, it doesn’t take much time to make a simple set of casual earrings to go grocery shopping or just use them every other day as needed.
1. I simply grabbled some of my assorted beads. 2. Selected the silver tone and matching ear wires and flat pins. 3. Gather my jewelry tools and boom! 4. In under 5 minutes I had a new set of earrings. Hurry, go to your nearest craft store my friend and start making your own jewelry. It actually happened last week, November 14, 15 and 16 , 2024. It was so beautiful and so cool to get to see the moon that big for a couple of days. So big, like it was so approachable as well as radiant and totally perfect. Again, Mother Nature never disappoints.
I just needed to share these shots with you, in spite of the fact that my iPhone didn’t get the perfect photos that I was aiming at. Boomer! I never expected to see this interesting vegetable. (“squash”)? I am 5’ tall and when I stood by the vegetable it was almost as tall as I am, maybe approximately 4’.
Therefore, as soon as I got home I Google the description and several names came up. Cucuzza, Opo Squash, Delicata Squash, Long Melon, Edible Gourd, Snake Gourd, Bottle Gourd and Tasmania Bean. Well, God knows, it might have other names as well, Smile. If you have a garden bed and have any kind of plants, you can come up with an arrangement for your home.
I am lucky to have some varieties of Hosta plants in my garden, however, today, I selected these green kind, simply because the weather is getting cold and they are beginning to wilt. As you can see, they shoot a long stem with flowers attached at the top and I am sure that you will agree with me that their beauty shows perfectly, BOOM! These trees are so beautiful during summer time. I happen to have several in my property and when they flower, I am ready to get crafty.
It doesn’t take much to design an arrangement because the beauty of the flowers is more than enough. They come in various colors; white, red, fuchsia, pink, lavender, oh well, almost a whole rainbow of colors. Enjoy my sweet creation today and if you don’t have one, run to the garden center to get one :) |
