HACKS-GARDENING: MY GENERAL GARDENING HACKS!

The 2021 GARDEN SEASON just begun. Therefore, let’s just get some things lined up before we run to the garden center and come back home with a lot of stuff that will make us fail.

• Get your garden in shape, clean all debris from last year and rake the old soil.
• Go back inside your home and do a plan of what you want to grow this year; vegetables? Flowers? Also, to enjoy it longer, make sure that you locate it in an area that you can see from a window, or deck most of the time for enjoyment.
• The better your soil the best success you will have growing and harvesting. If you can’t add compost, leaves, etc. to the garden, then purchase the best bagged soil sold at the garden centers. For veggies remember to go a step further and purchase organic soil only.
• Remember to rotate your planting plan. Do not plant the same vegetable in the same spot you planted it last year.  Move it to another location and you will notice the difference at harvest time. Trust me, I made that mistake and harvested only 1 pepper and 2 tomatoes during that season.
• Also, if you are a beginner gardener, start your garden small and manageable. Maybe 1 or 2 tomato plants, same for peppers, some herbs and I would add 1 eggplant.
• If you are an experienced gardener, do this trick; try to grow something this year that you have never grown before, just for fun and to keep it interesting, smile.
• If on the other hand you are growing flowers, try to make some sense to what you are purchasing as far as colors. Sometimes is better to have 2 or 3 colors in our flower beds to make an impact versus all the colors of the rainbow that may look cluttered.
• If on the other hand if you are so lucky to live in a warmer state where it doesn’t snow, then make sure that at least you plant one or more palm trees, one bougainvillea and a  lemon, orange and a banana tree, smile.
• Finally, do not forget to water your garden. Follow your plants guide for daily or infrequent water patterns and do it accordingly.
• After all these things are done, grab a cup of coffee or cup of tea, walk to your garden and simply enjoy all the hard work that you put into it to make it work.
