Shallots are really onions cousins, smile. They are very much related. However, shallots are a bit sweeter than onions and are great to use when you just need a mild onion flavor.
When we plant one shallot, we will eventually get a cluster of shallots that looks more like garlic clusters. The difference from a shallot and an onion is that when you plant one onion, that is exactly what you will harvest, one onion. So, get those hands dirty now, start them indoors like I did. I found out that one of my shallots already sprouted, therefore, I took advantage and put the roots in a bit of water to allow for more rooting before I plant it outside. Finally, I want to thank my beautiful son, who started me on using shallots, which a couple of years ago I never used. Gracias my love!
