My trip to Colorado coincided, unfortunately with a huge heartbreak. I arrived few days after the Aurora shooting tragedy. Ironically, although this happened in 2012, the trial of the “killer”, James Holmes, a former University of Colorado neuroscience researcher, ended less than a month ago in 2015. The sentence decided was life in prison without parole over the death penalty. Do we all agree or disagree with the jury decision is totally beside the point. Our country has a judicial system that we all must trust and furthermore support. Since our hotel was close to the area, my husband and I decided to pay our respects by going to the site where so many innocent people were killed. There are no words to describe the sadness that I felt upon arrival. I never experienced anything like it. I started to read some of the memorials left by the community and before I knew it, I was crying for people that I never met. It was a very sad day. In spite of that, we did not regret making the decision to go. It was the least we could do for all the victims and families involved. The following is Part 1 of the photos I took that day. Next week I will share with you more photos under this same page as Part 2.
