The St. Louis Gateway Arch

This is one of my favorites. Here are some stats about one the most impressive monuments in the USA:

1. The Arch represents the city’s history on the riverfront, as the Gateway to the West.
2. It is the tallest man-made monument in the U.S., just about as tall as it is wide at-630 feet.
3. It is taller than the Washington Monument.
4. It is more than twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty.
5. More than 90 acres make up the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial which is part of the National Park Service.
6. It was created as part of a design competition to pay tribute to Thomas Jefferson and the Westward Expansion of the U.S.
7. It was completed on Oct. 28, 1965 when the final piece was set into place.
8. This year it is celebrating its 50 birthday.
9. The City Arch River is undergoing renovations now that are expected to be completed in the year 2017.
