I love mangoes. I am originally from the Caribbean, where mangoes grow like crazy and the varieties are endless. In fact, I had a mango tree in my back yard. Anyway, I really never researched the nutritional benefits of eating mangoes, other than they are a good source of vitamin C, so, finally, I just did and these are some of the good stuff we get when we eat them. Mangoes are: High in vitamin C, potassium, lutein, fiber and boost the immune system. On top of that, the orange color of the mango peel contains beta carotene, an anti-cancer agent. However, although the peel is edible, some people are allergic to it because it contains the same compound of poison ivy and oak. I personally never ate the peel and will never try to eat it.
